A New Year Awaits..................

New Year's Eve, where did the year go, so much has happened, my daughter has been here an entire year with braedan it's hard to believe and how he has grown, both physically and educationally how wonderful and amazing it has been to watch his achievements and milestones.  Autism surely is something of a challenge on a daily basis, it's difficult yet it's been beautiful, surely braedan will aspire and achieve in the year to come i can hardly wait to see where he is next January, he is soooo smart and i believe if he can harness his knowledge he will be the next say einestein who knows.......  We truly need to encourage and help all who deal with this new horizon, it is believed that around one in 80 males born today will be diagnosed on the spectrum, we need to find the answers to the puzzle so noone ever has to be in the silent world of autism, there is so much to learn, we must listen and find the answers for all who live with this.................

Hummel Angel SnowGlobe................................

Ever since I was a small girl I have been in love with hummels, the vintage feel of the paint, the wonder of the children has always touched my heart. 

When I was small my gramma droege had a hummel collection I used to admire upon every visit to her house, how I wished those were mine!!  And one day she did give them to me when I was in my early twenties, I was sooooo thrilled, they are so beautiful to me. I did acquire more hummels over the years and my collection has grown, I do spread them throughout my house so they can be viewed by all, I don't lock them up in cabinets because although they are valueable i do want to enjoy them as they were ment to be enjoyed...........

Since it is christmas and I did want to make a snow globe for myself I decided to incorporate one of my dear angel hummels as the focal point of this globe, she is so beautiful and I just love the shade of green her dress is, it's so vintage, here is my newest globe, i hope you enjoy, what fond memories...........

she just makes me feel so peaceful and calm....................................her simplicity truly invokes wonder.....

Snow Globe and CooKiEs.................... Busy, busy busy.................

It has been another hectic day filled with baking and last minute crafting for christmas.  I can never think of what to get for my mom, it's an age old dilemma, so this year I decided to craft one of these snow globes I saw on a recent challenge at the the shabby tea room, I just loved the way they looked and I thought this is something very, very special.  So, on that note this is what I came up with.................................
emily and i decided it was high time we made some cookies, what fun, we had such a vat of sugar cookie dough I thought it would never end.............................. on to the snow globe....
My mom loves angels so i created a little angel house inside the globe out of matchboxes i received in a recent christmas swap at a swapforallseasons, I attached two boxes together then added a roof and some tinsel, there are silver glass glitter stars hanging from the ceiling for added whimsey!!!! On the inside and outside is glitter applied with a clear coat of gel medium........................
I permanently adhered my globe to the top of my box, which I covered in vintage sheet music(mom loves to play the piano so I thought this personalized the globe)....... I added lots of flowers and pearls in muted tones of cream.  I think this globe is going to fit right in with the scandinavian christmas in the tea room, it just feels that way to me.............
this is the back view of the globe and you can see the back of the house I tried to make it viewable and fun from every angle........................
the top is encrusted in roses, pearls and glitter, lots of glitter................

It's Beginning to look a LoT like ChRiStMaS....................everywhere I LooK......

Well, we are into the homestretch, christmas is only a few days away, WoW, I cannot believe how fast it came, it's amazing.  The past few days have been very difficult here and my christmas stuff has been on hold, my youngest daughter has had breathing difficulties for some time now and we have been going to our regular doctor about it for years without any relief.  Last month we went to an ENT doctor and found out she had a deviated septum and problems inside her nose, so to fix the problem she had to have surgery on friday, oh my gosh i never envisioned how horrible nose surgery is, I cannot believe anyone would go through this for cosmetic reasons, it has been a miserable three days, i am so hoping that things take an upswing soon.  So, suffice to say I have not been online or thinking of christmassy things lately, but today I took a few pictures inside my house and thought I would share.............................. Guest designer for the shabby tea room

I am so excited to be guest designing in the tea room this week, I won a challenge a while back and have been looking forward to this week's theme of "warm and snuggily" for some time now.  Well without further adou the theme this week is to create a project with the theme of warm and snuggily out of felt or with felt in your project.  With that said I thought and thought about this, for warm and snuggily I thought of christmas using my tree as inspiration.................................
and for felt I thought of wool felt, so I purchased old sweaters at a thrift store and felted them (boiled them then dryed them in the dryer), from the wool felt I made christmas tree ornaments and a stocking............................  I hope you enjoy.................................
These projects were quite easy and I truly enjoyed working with the wool felt adding embellishments was so much fun........................

I just love this vintage pin on this ornament, it reminds me of an old comfy sweater adorned with a little bling for a touch of glamour..........................

Ribbons and Roses and Day 11 of the matchbox swap

There is a design team call at the shabbytea room this week and in my spare time I have been making a couple of entries..................... My first project is a ribbon banner, it came out lovely and was not hard to make, I chose the red and white ribbon as that was theme in the tea room but you could use any colors you like, as the ribbon is woven into the banner little pockets are created between the two ribbon pieces and inside some of these pockets I added tiny sea shells I had collected on summer vacations, when you hang this in a window it almost looks like stained glass, the sunlight shimmers through the ribbons, making for a lovely scene................................. Unfortunately today is a grey northeast winter day and the sun is not shining any longer it was for a bit yesturday but now it definitely looks like snow..............................

Just looking out the window you can see how cold it is here!!! I went to the post office yesturday and saw three accidents on the 5 mile trip!!! It was our second snow with the temps at about 16 and cars were going sooooooo fast that most of them ended up in the ditch!!  Why people in the northeast drive like they are in the desert is beyond me, it never ceases to amaze me..............................................
My next project was fun little french inspired card............... I love these papers by My Minds Eye they are so much fun to work with...............................
while cleaning yesturday I decided to do a bit more decorating for christmas and I thought I might share a few pics....................................
This is my living room tree it is rusticly decorated with lots of paper ornaments and some handmade hearts, I flocked this tree before decoratin it and I love the snowy white it came out, I just wish it was a little fuller!!! Oh well, fake trees really are just that fake trees.......................................
this is a little felted heart I made for a guest design spot I just love the way it looks on the tree so rustic, but I think it will be moving to the kitchen after christmas for year round enjoyment, I love the way it came out, I think I will be heading to the salvation army for more old sweaters to felt.............................
..................................................  the pine cones are natural I love the way they look with a little bit of glitter added ..................................
the lace garlands on this tree are all vintage pieces of lace I found at a local antique store, the little french inspired chalkboards I made, I think it adds just the right touch of oh la la..............................
This next tree is in my craft room, it is my all time favorite color PiNk...............and is a candy fun inspired tree......................

this little white tree in my kitchen is dedicated to all the lovely matchboxes I received in the swap for all seasons fall 2010 swap.........................

day 8 of the countdown...............

so sorry I missed a few days of the countdown, i help my daughter with sweet Braedan getting him off to school and home again, speech therapy, and pt after that!! Monday is a busy day for the little man, but he is doing wonderful and it all is sooooooo worth the effort, he has made such strides in this past year, his language is blossoming he is so looking forward to christmas this year, he hasn't really been interested in presents or santa so this is like a new experience for Meg and Steve, one that will be so wonderful, autism is so difficult but on another note sometimes it's so beautiful in it's simplicity of life, of what is really important, Braedan is such a little love and soooooo beautiful...............
Isn't this just lovely, and i absolutely love the bottle cap, over at aswapforallseasons you can see all the wonderful people in the swap, i seem to have misplaced my list if anyone knows whose box this is please let me know and i will link you up, so sorry

matchbox swap

I seem to have so much going on right now I have not had time to post pictures of the beautiful matchboxes I received from the swap ataswapforallseasons I seem to have misplaced my list of swappers so I will do my best to match up my lovely matchboxes with the correct blogger......... Today is day 3 of the countdown to christmas and this is the lovely matchbox I received from scented cottage it's just lovely................ and the little photo frame is great.............

A Vintage Inspired Christmas....................

This year I have really been trying to concentrate on vintage inspired ornaments....... I really have been loving the shapes of stars and I have been trying to create new innovative ornaments with a vintage touch.............This is my most recent star adventure....................
These stars are chipboard I cut from a pattern, with vintage (mozart) sheet music as the background, I made the tissue circle to highlight the vintage ephemera, the crepe paper is surrounded with tinsel, the sides of the star are embellished with german glass glitter (my all time fav, love the sparkle on the tree and how it changes with time), I love the overall look of this ornament and it looks great on the tree, the jute tie adds just the right touch of rustic!!!

well it's back to work lots of other projects on the burner with a show on sunday and christmas right around the corner!!
